Sick Puppy
by Pete Jarvis

Way back in the Dreamtime I picked up a 65inch or 1.6 metre Torpedo Boat (McHales Navy type) hull with the idea of using it to take my lure out from the shore. I talked it over with a couple of mates over the years but did nothing about it except come up with some crazy idea that it would be good to have a ???.

A Fishing Story
By Elise Hardiman

One of my best fishing experiences was when Dad and I went on a charter with Dean Hayes. He may look like a cranky old garden gnome but he was very nice and extremely helpful.
We went to the Colo River, he showed us a few spots and a few different techniques. He showed us how to catch E.P's and after a few minutes I caught my first every Estuary Perch.
We were using 1/4 oz and 1/8 oz Bass Master Stand Up Jig Heads with Slider Bass Grubs in pumkin seed. But Dad and I found a green and yellow one that also works well.
We only use 2-4 and 1-3 seven foot Strudwick Sic Sticks with cheap Shimano Reels, about $240 for the combo, great for the money but after using Deans 1-3 Sic Stick Pro I wanted one of my own.
I have chased E.P's since and seem to improve every trip. I caught one lastComp day and Dad and I had a great session last saturday.

Thank you Dean and thank you everybody in the Club for making me feel welcome.

DAMN FLY FISHING
By Tony Devine

Before I get into this topic there are two things you must understand. First, none of this work is my own. I have unashamedly stolen, (plagiarized sounds better but means the same), all of this knowledge from a fisherman far better than I will ever be. Second, I paid him to teach me. Yes I paid someone to take me fishing, I realise in some peoples books that is only one step above visiting ladies of negotiable virtue (the image of Dean in a negligee is going to haunt me for weeks now) but it’s the truth. If you want to learn how to do something properly get a teacher and if they are any good why shouldn’t they be paid for their skill (like a plumber who fixes your toilet, the same one you tried to do yourself until your wife had enough of having to clean the ceiling every time it was flushed).

There isn’t room to go into great detail so I will assume a level of knowledge and leave the detail to you to find out; this is actually half the fun anyway. There are a large number of fly fishing books about; in fact fly fishing is probably second only to religion in this respect (some believe this is because fly fishing is a religion).
