Recording Officers Report - April 2007

The final round of the bass season has come and gone. Sackville camp started on Friday night where Tony and Rod stayed the night with their bottle of red and their VB’s. Saturday saw more of us turn up to stay the night and to hear Tony and Rod tell us about their running races they had the night before. Tony pulled out his shooting game which was a great hit for all us “kids” I think Toys R Us might be worth a look for a sponsorship for next year.
Back to the fishing, it was a little quiet on the water. The boys on the kayaks seemed to do alright; it might have been the stealth factor. Lucky for them that Rod Lamb and I were passing to give them a lift back to the BBQ. I think most of us ended up down river around the Colo, where a couple more fish were caught.
John Thompson caught the biggest bass 361mm. Scotty caught a 356mm flathead, taking out the other species. There were 30 bass caught and 15 anglers.
All in all a slow weekend but a great weekend.
I would like to thank all the guys who camped Saturday night and fished on Sunday for making my young bloke (Joel) feel more than welcome. He has not stopped talking about it and wondering when we are going to do it again.
Now the start of the bream season starts!

Recording Officers Report - March 2007

15 anglers and 60 Bass caught.
It started at 6pm at Windsor. Rain was always going to come but we still launched the boats. Everyone shot up stream, some went right up. The river was very shallow past the boom. The weed was as thick as I have ever seen it causing Tony to have some waterworks problems with his motor. It came good after he got into some clear water.
Most of the fish were caught past the boom. I caught most of mine on surface lure (Taylor made black). As the wind picked up we headed back downstream. Then the rain started and we all headed for the closest piece of shelter, which was the Windsor Bridge. It looked pretty funny to see all the boats sitting under the bridge!
After a quick fish under the bridge we had a vote and decided to call it a night, due to it raining cats and dogs.
Back to the boat ramp and the boats were pulled out and gear was sorted out quickly and the BBQ was set up under the shelter of the water skiing tower. Nothing like a sausage sandwich at 11pm!
Peter Walker gave away some prizes for the smallest fish, 110mm bass Andy Parkinson. Biggest fish, 390mm bass Alan Owen. Most points 1460 Scott Kavanagh. Most fish caught Joel (8).
A top night fishing even the rain didn’t spoil it.
Thanks for all that turned up for our first night fish and to the two new members Mark and Ben. Welcome to the HNBAA.
Thanks to Peter for taking me fishing. Got to admit I was a bit worried about the size of your boat or should I say I was a bit worried about the size of us in your boat. Being the supreme fishing athletes that we are. But that boat really kicks ass!
Hopefully we will have more night comps in the future. See you all at the next meeting

NEPEAN RIVER AT PENRITH
22 anglers 125 fish caught 2 Sub Juniors 5 Juniors
It was an early start due to the heat forecasted. A lot of people went up river and a couple of us stayed around the willows and the gorge.
New member Michael Colotouros caught his first Bass and ended up taking out the day with the biggest fish 370mm and most points on 1430. Well done Michael!
It seemed like everyone caught fish on the day with Rod Lamb catching all his fish on fly, with the biggest being 280mm and biggest other species with a 215mm herring.
There were 7 juniors/sub juniors. Well done to the kids to brave the heat.
Everyone seemed to get off the water a bit early due to it warming up quickly and the boat ramp getting crowded.
BBQ was fired up under the shade of the trees and away from the chaos on the ramp (apparently there was more shade down the road, so I was told, maybe next time.)
Thanks to all that helped out at the BBQ.

CHRISTMAS PARTY / FISHING DAY
11 Anglers. 24 fish caught. 2 juniors and 2 sub juniors.
It was a short and sweet fish due to Santa coming for the kids. It was a low tide when we got there and it was still running out. Most of us shot up to the Colo, it seemed the fish were tied up in the darkness.
All the kids that fished seemed to have caught fish, which is good to see. Back at the ramp lunch was cooking, a spot on feed (agreed upon by all). Santa arrived with the kid’s presents. The kids eyes lite up as they waited for their name to be called. The unwrapping began and for the adults construction began. The jumping castle got a good work out. A top day.
To all the people who helped organise and set up (Pam and Alan Owen), brought salads (Brian McKay and daughters) and drinks, a big THANK YOU. Also a thank you to Norm and Belinda for helping Santa with the presents. Thanks to Teddy and family for letting us use their property.
I hope everyone had a happy and safe Christmas and New Year. See you all in the New Year.

Recording Officers Report - November 2006

It was off to Glenbawn. Most of the blokes took off Friday, mid morning, to set up camp and have a little bit of a fish. The rest of us turned up later in the night, to be greeted by Andrew and Joel who had saved some flat ground for us. After the tents were set up it was time to get serious. So the drinking and storytelling began, also advice was on hand, of what to use and where to go.
Morning came; we were out on the water. The weather was spot on, a little bit cloudy but it burnt off quickly. No wind and that’s not like Glenbawn at all. We all decided to come back for lunch (the night before). We all sat around trying to work out a pattern of what was working, it was a little slow out there but I think everyone had caught a fish of two by lunch.
Andrew came up with a new rig, the angry worm. Who needs a Jackal (go the worm). Scotty got excited about catching his first dam fish. He stripped off to his undies and jumped in to get his fish out of the timber (hope it was worth the effort).
After some nanny naps (we were all scattered around like a bunch of seals), Peter and Mark Wilbow blew up a ski tube and Alan towed some of the guys around, another use for the Pro-Strike. During the afternoon it cooled down and we all had a bit of a fish, and continued into the night.
We returned to camp for dinner and picked up from were we left off on Friday night, drinking, chatting and storytelling.
Sunday morning was spot on again and more fish were caught. Mid morning the wind started to pick up (like the Glenbawn we know and love). Headed back to camp and started packing up, for the travel home, the long way due to the fires closing down Putty Road.
Thank you to all who turned up, it was a great weekend. Hope everyone got home Ok without too much drama.
P.S. Rod well done on the banner and the sticker on your boat. Bad luck about your gear box, at least you got home. You might have to tell Cassandra no more burnouts!

Recording Officers Report - October 2006

19 Anglers out of that there were 2 sub juniors and 3 juniors and one female. In total there was 91 fish caught and recorded.
We started early to a nice crisp morning. The boats that started early headed up stream to the Terraces and the Breakaway. I stopped to fish the Breakaway and it didn’t take long to hook up, first fish was only little but it all helps.
My partner, Anthony Garde, threw a white spinner bait at a snag that we had seen a fish strike at something earlier. BANG he was on, the rod loaded up big time. As quick as he could say “I’m on”, it was all over. The fish took the lot. Fish=1 Anthony=0. As we kept on fishing the snag my young bloke Joel got snagged up, so we went in to get the lure back, (Anthony was up the front) saw something white in the weed bed beside the snag. As we got closer, he saw it was his spinner bait, hanging out of the mouth of a bass. The fish looked at him and he looked at the fish, Anthony started yelling and screaming. The fish departed to fight again another day, Fish=2 Anthony=0. Anyone catching a bass with a white spinner bait please return to owner.
Joel and Andrew, Rod and Annabelle went right up to the Terraces and by all reports it looked like that’s where they got most of their fish. The rest of us hung around downstream.
It was good to see the sub juniors and juniors having a good time. It’s a great way to introduce kids to the sport and the social aspect of it.
Thanks to all that brought back fish for DNA testing. Big thanks to Elise and Cassandra and all the kids for doing the DNA stuff (that’s the technical term).
Another great BBQ cooked by Rod and thanks to Rod for organising the fly-bys from the jets and other aircraft (that’s another technical term).
Alan and Pam (Fonzie) must have smelt the BBQ cooking; they popped in after their early commitments.
Thanks to all that fished and made it a great day, thanks for the catch sheets being handed in on time.

Recording Officers Report - September 2006

21 anglers turned up to fish. The weather was spot on in the morning. The tide was running out at the start, it looked like everyone was hanging in the mouth of the Colo. Tony, Grant and Scott kayaked around. Grant and Scott hooked up a fish each. Tony was not so lucky. A couple of us shot up the main river towards Dargel but the water looked like chocolate milk. Rod Lamb was lucky though and hooked up a fish.
It looked like the Colo might be the go. Rod, Elise and Cassandra (welcome to Cassandra for her first fish comp experience) were fishing the weed bed with a couple of fish that looked interested, but no takes.
Joel and Andrew went straight up the Colo where Joel caught his bag containing biggest fish of the day at 342mm. Well done Joel. Andrew picked up two late in the day.
The wind picked up mid morning, so I think everyone came up the Colo to get away from it. But it kept blowing and blowing.
We headed back down to find some relief and found Scott riding the waves on his kayak. We threw Scott and kayak into the boat for a ride back. (Scott was not keen to hang on the side; he said “done that, no good”)
Arrived back at ramp and wind continued to blow so we pulled out the boats and started the BBQ early.
The BBQ was set up and Elise and Cassandra took care of the cooking. Thanks heaps. The dirt which was blowing around while we ate just added flavour to the sausages.
A great day, shame about the wind. Hope everyone got home in one piece and their homes were in one piece when they arrived.
Congrats and well done to everyone for a great day fishing.
Next comp October 22 at WINDSOR. Remember catch sheet must be paid for and handed in before 1pm to get the 2 bonus points. All information on the catch sheets to be recorded accurately to help Fisheries and me.

Recording Officers Report - August 2006

We started about 6am a little cool but not too bad. Boats headed in all directions up and down the river (I think as a got there late.)
Fishing was a bit slow (for better words) it was turning out to be a hard day at the office (but a great day for a BBQ)
Thanks to Rod and Elise for bringing the BBQ and drinks and to all the cooks.
Hopefully the start of the Bass season will see more anglers turn up even if you don’t catch a fish it is better than mowing the lawn.
